Once, Liu and a colleague of his went to the restaurant, and the latter was lucky enough to win a RMB100 at a lucky draw. Ironically, when they came out from the restaurant, they found there was a RMB200 penalty fine on his car for forbidden parking.
What was your favorite project at Virtuos?
We fully developed a hand-held game based on a major Hollywood movie for one of our clients who was developing the Next-Gen version in-house. I was the producer and it has been the most challenging project I have worked on so far in my career as a game professional. The time frame was tight and as it was a movie tie-in, so the release of the game on all platforms could not suffer any delay. I was very proud to be part of this full-size project and I felt my contribution was as important as the movie stars themselves!
How frequently do you learn new things at your current job?
Constantly. There are two ways for me to learn new things. Each game I produce has its own game style, concept and techniques. Therefore, I can constantly accumulate knowledge from working on one title to another. Secondly, the company regularly offers us various formal training opportunities. For instance, this year I attended two courses - Working Efficiency and Leadership. They are very valuable for me to enhance my management skills.
How is your career development monitored at Virtuos?
A formal evaluation is conducted every 6 months to review each employee's performance and to set his or her goals for the coming 6 months. My line manager will then assign suitable tasks to me according to my requests. It is also a good chance for employees to raise our opinion and give feedback on our company. Apart from this, we also conduct a post mortem when a project is completed, to help us analyze the problems encountered during production and how we faced them, in order reduce risk on future projects. I also submit a weekly project report to my manager so that he can supervise my work progress. Other colleagues' feedback will also be taken into account for future improvement.
What do you have to say about company events?
I think these events are great opportunities for us to interact with other teams or departments, and also foster our own team spirit and cooperation. I like the weekly sports events where I enjoy the exercise and more importantly the chance to interact with colleagues from other departments. I also particularly enjoyed the Mid-Autumn dinner or when we all got invited to watch "Transformers" at the movie theatre.
