Virtuos sound expert Yang Jie gives talk at GDC China

Shanghai, October 11, 2009 – Audio Director of Virtuos Sound Studios Yang Jie gave a presentation at GDC China 2009 highlighting the importance of sound design and the current status of the sound design in China.

“The importance of sound design is still underestimated by many teams in China, when not overlooked entirely,” said Yang Jie. “Improper sound design can very negatively affect the quality of a game and create severe project management issues.”

Experienced in creating sound for both Western console games and Chinese PC online games, Yang Jie illuminated the differences between the markets and how to create audio environments that match the special requirements of each audience.

The presentation covered several key principles of sound design and how professional sound team processes and understanding of the technical aspects sound engine can benefit a game’s audio and create a more immersive experience.

Yang Jie also outlined several paths to help developers improve their game audio including hiring specialized sound experts or conducting audio training for their in house teams.
