Virtuos Helps Top-Selling EA SPORTS FIFA Franchise Develop Authentic Player Models

EA SPORTS™ FIFA Soccer 13 sold over 4.5 million games across all platforms worldwide in the five days after it launched and was the No. 1 selling game in at least 40 countries around the world. It was the biggest sports videogame launch of all-time.

The blistering launch which began September 25 was driven by high game quality and record sales in key regions, led by more than 1.23 million games sold in the first 48 hours in the United Kingdom. FIFA Soccer 13 is only the second videogame franchise ever to sell more than 1 million units in the UK within just 1 day.

“FIFA Soccer 13 is a critical and commercial success unprecedented in sports entertainment,” said Andrew Wilson, Executive Vice President of EA SPORTS. “Every minute of every day millions of fans around the world are experiencing what the critics have already said— FIFA Soccer 13 is the biggest and best sports game we have ever created.”

Critics have praised game quality and the stunning player models found in FIFA Soccer 13. EA SPORTS is always investing in technology that makes its games more authentic, and over the past few years it has been using 3D head scanning technology to digitally scan many of Europe’s top players, transforming the way they look in game. The team at EA SPORTS has travelled throughout Europe to 3D head scan players on many of the top clubs, creating high quality and authentic 3D digital player models of individual players.

Virtuos contributed art including character art for hundreds of characters, as well as environmental art for FIFA 13. That includes post-production on 3D player scans, turning them into stunning player models that are ready for in-game use.

FIFA Soccer 13 captures the unpredictability of real-world soccer, ensuring no two matches play the same. The game features breakthrough gameplay innovations that create a true battle for possession across the entire pitch and deliver freedom and creativity in attack, as well as engaging online features and live services that connect fans to the heartbeat of the sport—and to each other—through EA SPORTS Football Club. FIFA Soccer 13 is Football’s Social Network, where fans connect, compete and share with millions of others around the world.

EA SPORTS is one of the leading sports entertainment brands in the world, with top-selling videogame franchises, award-winning interactive technology, fan programs and cross-platform digital experiences.
