It’s finally here! Last Friday, we opened the doors of Virtuos Kuala Lumpur (KL) for the first time to our friends and partners from the industry.

Hosted by our CEO, Gilles, and Virtuos KL’s General Manager, Mufizal, the launch of our studio was graced by guests of honor Mahadhir Aziz, CEO of Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC), and Rosedalina Ramlan, Director of Business Services and Regional Operations of Malaysian Investment Development Authority (MIDA).

To kick off the party, we invited our guests to a tour of the studio for a behind-the-scenes sneak peek of game development. Through the guided tour, our guests were introduced to the Virtuos Induction Program – a three-month paid training program for fresh graduates and local talent in Malaysia. They also experienced the creation of concept art with level design and how it would eventually be used to develop levels within the game engine, courtesy of a demo by our concept artists and level designers. A feast for the eyes, if we may say so.

After the studio tour, Gilles shared insights into the vision behind Virtuos’ expansion into Malaysia. Stressing our desire to contribute to Malaysia’s digitalization as a regional game development hub, Gilles said:

“When we invest in a city, we’re serious. We invest for the long run, and we intend to play an active role in growing the games industry globally.”

Gilles shared about the company’s journey to becoming one of the largest independent developers during his presentation

Mufizal also expressed his excitement in returning home to build Virtuos KL alongside some of his closest friends and pioneers in the industry. “I can’t wait to see Malaysians work on global IP brands, because Virtuos is capable of bringing in some of the highest quality games and projects here into Malaysia,” he shared. “Virtuos is prepared to bring in direct investment to develop our talent as well as create facilities, so as to make great games together.”

Our guests of honor from MIDA and MDEC also expressed their excitement our launch in Malaysia. Acknowledging the potential and numerous opportunities brought forth by the exponential growth of the global game industry, they look forward to working with us to develop a rich and diverse digital media sector.

While all that’s cool…the real party began as we kicked back and relaxed with food, games, and music. Our industry friends and partners joined in the fun and everyone had a blast with the arcade machines, VR headsets, and a claw machine with two lucky guests even taking home a PlayStation 5 each as the top prizes! Capped off by a raving DJ performance, the party came to a close.

We had a great launch party with food, drinks, and games
