It’s been a hectic but fruitful weekend for everyone participating in Global Game Jam Online 2021. Many cups of coffee were drunk and much sleep was sacrificed, but we’ve all emerged with some really interesting games and forged new friendships as a result. Truly an epic win!

Let’s take a closer look at what transpired at Global Game Jam 2021 with photos and videos.

Jamming Together in the Studio

Our studios in Shanghai, Chengdu, Xi’an, Singapore, Vietnam, Paris and Dublin were abuzz with activity throughout the event, capturing the classic atmosphere of a Game Jam. But don’t take our word for it – check it out for yourself!

Virtual Teamwork on Discord

True to its name, Global Game Jam Online 2021 was different from its predecessors, in that much of it was held online this year.

While some of our studios allowed Jammers to collaborate in person, many others chose to embrace the new, fully-virtual environment on Discord, utilizing both chat and voice channels for communication and collaboration.

Here’s just a snapshot of the exciting things being shared around in the development phase of the event.

Our Lead Game Designer Nicolas Roginski was also invited to a special Q&A session for the online part of the event, where he shared more about Virtuos’ philosophy towards making games, how we help create AAA titles with our clients, and even some personal advice from Nicolas about handling pressure during the Game Jam.

It was an immense pleasure for us to play a part in this year’s Global Game Jam. Not just as an official sponsor, but also as hosts for Jammers to team up and collaborate on some wonderful creations. In the end, we truly do make games better, together.
